As the saying goes, men are from Mars and women are from Venus. Whilst we often poke fun at the differences between the two genders, the reality is that we really are different when it comes to our anatomy – and our health.
That’s why we are excited to launch our brand-new Women’s Health Clinic, right here in Bowral NSW. Run by our talented team of female doctors, the clinic will be offering a comprehensive health check for ladies from 25 years of age and above.
To give you even more of an incentive to check in, this week is #WomensHealthWeek. Taking place every year from September 2nd-6th, Women’s Health Week is a week dedicated to all women across Australia to make good health a priority.
According to www.womenshealthweek.com.au, “the two biggest barriers for women not maintaining a healthy lifestyle is ‘lack of time’ and ‘health not being a priority’”. Women’s Health Week is the time to do something for your health and start making positive changes that can last a lifetime – and that starts with a check up at Walker Street General Practice.
What does the check up involve?
The check-up runs for approximately 30 minutes and, depending on your needs, may include a cervical screening test, breast examination, bladder & bowel health check, blood pressure & BMI check or a Pre & Post Menopausal Assessment to name a few.
You may also be referred for blood and/or urine tests to check on your kidney function, liver function, cholesterol level, iron levels, complete blood count and so on, should these tests be required.
Regular health checks can help to detect health problems at an early stage before they develop into more serious, chronic conditions. For example, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some cancers can be picked up earlier on, when treatment is often more effective.
Why choose to visit the Women’s Health Clinic?
The clinic will be run by some of the best Bowral doctors; each of whom has a special interest in women’s health.

Dr. Amanda Hipwell has a FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health from Family Planning NSW and she is completing the Diploma in Child Health from the University of Sydney.

Still not sure if this check-up is for you?
Women are leading busier lives than ever before and we have a tendency to let ourselves slip low on our priority lists.
Let me ask you this – when was the last time you had your health checked? If the answer is “I don’t know” or “not sure”, maybe it’s time to book in.
Perhaps you have close family or friends who may also be in need of a health check up. Whether it’s your mother, sister, daughter or co-worker – we all need to keep an eye on our health.
You can find out more about the clinic and its services over at https://www.wsgp.com.au/womens-health/.
