FAQ

Since the opening of the clinic, we have received several questions from expectant mums about the clinic and how it all works. Below you’ll find some FAQs about the WSGP Antenatal Clinic that may assist you – but if you don’t see your answer here, get in touch with the team on 02 4861 3855 – as always, we’re here to help!

It’s best to come and see us as soon as you think you’ve fallen pregnant. From there, the team will advise how often you need to return for check-ups, and we will get you booked in for regular visits as needed.

Usually these are monthly until 32 weeks and then fortnightly until 36 weeks. From 36 weeks your visits will be weekly. However, this may differ from woman to woman as these are tailored to your unique needs. This may also differ if you’ve had an uncomplicated pregnancy before.

It’s also a good idea to come and see us if you’re not yet pregnant but you are trying to conceive. We can offer advice and guidance and a personalised health plan to ensure a safe and smooth pregnancy ahead.

The first visit will typically be longer than subsequent visits. We will discuss your medical history, undertake a clinic assessment involving height and weight measurements, blood pressure and more. We’ll estimate the date of birth and assess any risk factors that may impact the pregnancy moving forward.

It’s also a great opportunity to ask any questions you have about your pregnancy or about caring for your baby after the birth.

Thereafter, we’ll continue to monitor your progress, conduct further tests as needed and discuss test results with you openly and honestly. We’ll assess fetal growth, discuss fetal movements and continue to discuss any fears and worries with you as time goes on.

You want the best for your baby. So do we. We’ll work with you on an ongoing basis to determine a personalised health plan, depending on your situation. We’ll offer support to help you with your lifestyle, including mental health or dietary advice, or help quitting smoking or drinking alcohol. You can discuss any problems you might be having at home.

It’s a good idea for your birth support partner, family member or friend to come to your appointments with you, particularly when discussing your birth plan and if you want them to support you during the birth.

Of course, you’re likely to have many more questions than can be covered here – so it’s important to book in to see us face-to-face.

If you’re looking for antenatal care that’s based locally – without the hefty specialist price tag – reach out to us on (02) 4861 3855.
