New Patients

Become a patient at one of Southern Highland’s leading medical practices.

Our experienced Bowral doctors specialise in women’s health, men’s health, skin checks and aged care.

We ask that all new patients book a long consultation (30-40 minutes) with us so that we can carefully review your medical history and address your health needs. Please call reception on 4861 3855 to make an appointment or book an appointment online

Please arrive 10 minutes early for your appointment so that our reception staff can check your details are correct in our system. To save time, when you book online, you will receive a text with a link to help you complete your new patient application form. All you need to do when you arrive at the practice is sign in electronically.

You may wish to have your medical records transferred to us from your previous practice to enable our doctors to continue with comprehensive care. Please complete a Transfer of Medical Records Consent Form and send it to [email protected]. We will then contact your previous health care provider to arrange transfer of your medical records on your behalf.

*Please note that the  prescribing of S8 medications such as opioids, stimulants (methylphenidate and dexamphetamine) and benzodiazepines will NOT be done on the first visit with our GP.

Our team is committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients and current Medicare rebates do not cover the entire cost of providing you with safe and high-quality care.

Saturday appointments are privately billed, without exception.

The fees listed in bold are out-of-pocket or gap expenses. Full fees are to be paid on the same day as the consultation.

In most instances, we can claim your Medicare rebate instantly on your behalf so the rebate will be transferred straight into the cheque or savings bank account linked to your Medicare account.

N.B. The above list is for commonly billed items and not all-inclusive. Charges for other items are available on request.

TeleHealth (video and phone)

All Telehealth appointments are treated the same as face-to-face consults and incur our usual practice fees with the Medicare Rebate being transferred straight into the cheque or savings bank account linked to your Medicare account. (usually within 24-48 hours).

For telehealth appointments, in order to be eligible for the Medicare Rebate, you MUST have seen a GP face-to-face in our practice in the last 12 months. If you do not meet these criteria then you will incur a full fee and no Medicare rebate will apply.

Saturday Appointments

All consultations on Saturdays will incur a full fee to offset higher staffing costs. There is no Bulk Billing on Saturdays regardless of patient age and concession status.

Bulk Billing (excluding Saturday Appointments)

  • All DVA patients
  • All ATSI patients
  • Children under 13

Preventative health services such as Chronic Disease Care Plans (Diabetes, Heart Disease etc) and Health Assessments will be sent directly to Medicare so there are no out of pocket costs for these appointments.

Procedures

Any procedures such as skin cancer excisions, implant insertion/removal etc will incur an additional out of pocket fee to cover the cost of consumables and treatment room use, as these are not covered by Medicare. Please speak to your doctor or our receptionists to request an accurate estimate of costs.

Return to Work (Work Cover) Consultations

Accounts must be paid in full on the day of consultation. We will provide you with a receipt to then claim reimbursement from your Work Cover Insurance via your Return to Work Coordinator.

Extended Medicare Safety Net – Save on your Health

The Extended Medicare Safety Net supports individuals and families with out-of-pocket health costs. When you or your family spend over a certain amount for Medicare-related services in a calendar year, Medicare will give you a higher amount back including your out-of-pocket expense. As soon as you reach the threshold each calendar year, the safety net will trigger and Medicare will pay 100% of the rebate plus 80% of your gap/out-of-pocket for Medicare rebatable items. See the example below:

If you are charged $86.10 for a standard appointment, your out of pocket would normally be $47. Once you reach the Safety Net, you will only pay $9.40 out-of-pocket as Medicare will now pay you the usual rebate of $39.10 AND $37.60 (80% of the out-of-pocket expense).

The Medicare threshold depends on your financial situation. You can check how close you are to the threshold at any time via your Medical Online Account or through the Medicare Express App.

Spend at least this amount in each calendar year to activate the extended safety net
Concession cardholders and families eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A $717.90
Everyone else in Medicare  $2249.80

How Medicare Rebates work for GP’s

The Medicare patient rebate was frozen for several years and the most recent increase was significantly below the consumer price index. This means that whilst the costs of running our private medical practice and providing high-quality care to our patients continue to rise, medical professionals are reimbursed for delivering services at the same rate today as they were in 2014.

Cancellation Policy
Once confirmed, if you need to cancel your appointment, please give us at least 2 hours notice or fees may apply. This helps us to help other patients in need by offering them the appointment.
